Step 3: Learn Some Easy Baking Techniques
One of the most important techniques that you will want to master is “dough rolling.” So many of the dog treat recipes that you will end up using require you to roll dough so it’s important to know what you are doing. Take a look at the video below for some helpful tips.
Step 4: Cookie Cutters
As I mentioned above, many of the dog treat recipes that you will end up using are going to form a dough that you can roll out and then cut into desired shapes. I’m especially fond of these types of recipes for dog treats because they are so versatile. For example, I use the same recipe for peanut dog treats all year round, I simply change the shapes that I cut the dog treats into based on what time of year it is. For example, I use this recipe to make Halloween dog treats, Christmas dog treats and one of my best sellers… birthday dog treats! You can find a bunch of dog themed cookie cutters on Amazon.com or you could visit Good Dog Express, which is where I have purchased many of my cookie cutters.
Step 5: Decorating Dog Treats
When it comes to making homemade dog treats, decorating them is so much fun! I have decorated dog treats that looked good enough for people to eat. So what do I use? Here are a few of the basic items that I use when decorating dog treats.
1- Yogurt Chips
2- Carob Chips
How to Make Icing For Dog Treats
Use either yogurt chips or carob chips for your homemade dog treats icing. NEVER use chocolate!! Place a 1/2 cup of yogurt chips or carob chips in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on high for 30 seconds. Mix and put back into microwave for another 30 seconds. Stir so that ll bumps are gone. Use icing to decorate homemade dog treats. Let cool and harden before packaging.
Short Cut: Purchase pre-made icing for your dog treats too!
